 Kanawha Blvd along W.Va. Capitol Complex to close Tuesday evening during Joyful Night

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Capitol Police are advising the public that Kanawha Boulevard between Greenbrier Street and California Avenue will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 4 p.m. until at least 8 p.m.

All lanes of Kanawha Boulevard will be shut down at that location, which is along the W.Va. Capitol Complex, for Joyful Night.

The Joyful Night program will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the South Plaza of the Capitol with performances from West Virginia school bands. At 6 p.m., Governor Earl Ray Tomblin and First Lady Joanne Jaeger Tomblin will light the state Christmas tree, donated by Brenda and David Hanson of Winfield.

 The celebration is expected to draw several hundred people. Piedmont Road, which runs north of the Capitol Complex campus, will serve as a detour route while this section of Kanawha Boulevard is closed.

Also known as the Division of Protective Services, the Capitol Police provide for the safety and security of those who work, visit and do business at the West Virginia State Capitol Complex and other state government facilities. It is part of the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.
