ADVISORY: Law Enforcement Memorial Vigil today at W.Va. Culture Center

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty will be honored on Friday, May 8, with a 6 p.m. ceremony at the West Virginia Culture Center on the State Capitol Complex grounds.

 

The ceremony will include a multi-agency honor guard, a proclamation presented on behalf of Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, remarks by Secretary Joseph Thornton of the W.Va. Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, a candle-lighting and the laying of a wreath at the state law enforcement Fallen Partner Memorial.

 

The vigil is being held in conjunction with National Police Week, May 10-16, and has been organized by the West Virginia Wives Behind the Badge Auxiliary, police fraternal and professional organizations, and the Law Enforcement Professional Standards office of the W.Va. Division of Justice and Community Services, which is part of the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety (DMAPS).
